If the house already has ductwork — a forced-air furnace, electric or gas — the central heat pump connects to it. No visible heads in the rooms, a single outdoor unit, and more uniform temperature from one room to another.
Without a ductwork system, the question doesn’t arise: the cost of installing ducts almost always exceeds the difference with a multi-zone mini-split.
The Flexx is dual-fuel compatible. In practice: the heat pump provides heating as long as it remains more economical, then the gas furnace automatically takes over below a switchover temperature that is set during installation.
It operates on a conventional 24 VAC thermostat. When replacing a system, this avoids having to redo the entire control system.
Before discussing capacity, we measure the airflow of the existing ducts. This determines whether the replacement unit can connect to the current system or if it needs to be redone.
An oversized unit short-cycles, dehumidifies poorly, and wears out faster. An undersized unit runs continuously without ever reaching the setpoint. The estimate published by Hydro-Québec is approximately 15,000 BTU/h for 750 sq ft, but insulation, orientation, and ceiling height shift this figure in both directions.
We take measurements on-site, including the airflow of existing ducts: an undersized system limits the performance of any unit.

No Charmo models are ENERGY STAR certified, nor is the Airy 24,000 BTU/h. As of November 26, 2025, this certification is a condition for eligibility for the LogisVert program.
The amount is calculated based on the heating capacity at -8 °C, not the appliance’s nominal power. Most contractors write “up to $6,700.” We cross-reference the appliance’s AHRI number with Hydro-Québec’s official list and enter the exact amount in the quote.

Yes. This is even the most common setup for replacements: the heat pump heats for most of the season, and the furnace takes over during cold peaks. The switchover is automatic.

Yes, if it is ENERGY STAR certified. An exclusion applies to geothermal homes. Replacing only a coil is not eligible.
Ten to fifteen years according to Transition énergétique Québec, with regular maintenance. Clogged coils and neglected filters are what shorten this lifespan the most.
