Gree Airy R32, the highest performance in the series

A SEER2 of 30. That is the rating for the 9,000 BTU model in the Airy line, the highest among the five Gree R32 series. It heats down to −30°C and supports a 131-foot line set. One detail is worth reading before you sign, however: the 24,000 BTU model is not Energy Star certified, unlike the other three.

The four capacities, and which one carries the certification

Gree Airy R32: performance by capacity, manufacturer’s spec sheet
Nominal CapacitySEER2HSPF2Energy Star
9,100 BTU/h30.011.2Yes
12,000 BTU/h28.010.0Yes
18,000 BTU/h27.510.0Yes
22,000 BTU/h27.010.0No

A clarification on terminology, as it often causes confusion: the largest model is listed as 24,000 BTU in the catalog, based on its nominal heating capacity, while its cooling capacity is 22,000 BTU. Both designations refer to the same unit, and it is the one that is not certified.

The distinction matters because several rebate programs rely on the Energy Star list. Choosing the largest model in the series could cost you the subsidy. When the calculated load is borderline, we look at both scenarios before deciding, and we provide the figures.

How low it actually heats

Advertised heating range: −30°C to 30°C. Cooling range: −29°C to 50°C. In reality, a unit does not deliver its nominal capacity at its floor temperature—it continues to produce, but at reduced power.

This is precisely why a wall-mounted heat pump is designed with a backup source in our climate, and why we never remove existing heating without validating the unit’s behavior at design temperatures. The series’ intelligent preheating and defrosting limit losses; they don’t eliminate them.

What is included from the factory

Factory-installed Wi-Fi, A2L leak detection sensor included, self-cleaning function, self-diagnosis, automatic voltage adaptation and low-voltage startup, automatic vertical swing, precise airflow control.

The A2L sensor is not a gadget: R32 is slightly flammable, and leak detection is part of the requirements associated with this refrigerant. It is integrated into all R32 series presented here.

For the installation itself, see our wall-mounted heat pump page.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The manufacturer’s spec sheet does not assign it Energy Star certification, unlike the 9,000, 12,000, and 18,000 BTU models. This model is also designated by its heating capacity: 24,000 BTU for heating, 22,000 BTU for cooling. Since several programs rely on this list, you must verify the exact model before submitting an application.

The advertised heating range goes down to −30°C. The capacity delivered there is lower than the nominal capacity, which is normal for any heat pump: sizing must take this into account.

Up to 131 feet, the longest of the Gree R32 wall-mounted series. This allows for layouts where the outdoor unit is far from the room being served.
