We install Gree units with R32, the refrigerant replacing R410A. Five series cover most residential and commercial needs, from single rooms to central dual-fuel systems. The figures below are from the manufacturer’s spec sheets, not marketing material: these are the numbers we use for sizing.
| Series | Max SEER2 | Max HSPF2 | Heating Down To | Key Feature |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Airy R32 | 30.0 | 11.2 | −22 °F | Highest efficiency in the series |
| Clivia R32 | 26.0 | 10.4 | −22 °F | Optional fresh air kit |
| Charmo R32 | 22 | 9 | −13 °F | Up to 36,000 BTU, 115 V version |
| Multizone R32 | 21 | 10 | −22 °F | Up to five indoor units |
| Flexx R32 | 19 | 10.5 | −22 °F | Central system, 24 VAC, dual-fuel |
SEER2 alone doesn’t decide anything. A 30 SEER2 Airy heats one room; a 19 SEER2 Flexx heats an entire house via ducts and accepts a furnace as backup. These are two different applications, not two different product tiers.
ENERGY STAR certification is verified capacity by capacity, not series by series: of the five series, only the largest model in the Airy series lacks it. The official list is published by Natural Resources Canada.
A useful benchmark for new construction: approximately 15,000 BTU for 750 square feet. For an existing building, this ratio doesn’t apply directly—insulation, airtightness, orientation, and ceiling height shift it in both directions.
Oversizing costs twice: at purchase, then in use, because an overpowered unit cycles instead of modulating, dehumidifies poorly, and wears out faster. This is why we calculate the load before suggesting a model, not the other way around.
Expected lifespan: 12 to 15 years for a properly sized and maintained unit. Annual maintenance has more impact on this lifespan than the brand.
Gree spec sheets indicate a standard 10-year warranty on parts, extended to 12 years with Wolseley when the product is registered or proof of installation is provided.
Regarding subsidies, brochures state “eligible for certain government rebate programs.” Eligible does not mean accepted: each program has its own criteria, and it’s the specific model, not the series, that is accepted or rejected. Our subsidies page details current programs.

R32 has a significantly lower global warming potential and better heat transfer efficiency, allowing for smaller refrigerant charges. All series presented here include a factory-installed A2L leak detection sensor.
A wall-mounted mini-split: Airy, Clivia, or Charmo depending on budget and desired performance, or a Multizone if several rooms need to be treated with a single compressor.
The Flexx R32. It operates on 24 VAC with a conventional thermostat, accepts a dual-fuel configuration with a furnace, and connects to existing ductwork.
12 to 15 years when properly sized and annually maintained. An oversized unit rarely reaches the higher end of this range.
We’ll come to you, take measurements, and explain what works best and why. Then, you decide.
